French Institute of Houston (FIH) is committed to making sure that your experience with us is a wonderful one!
Please note the important policies below.
Please note that a minimum of 3 students is required to open a class. A class can be canceled depending on student enrollment.
Course cancellations or changes:
FIH reserves the right to cancel classes and workshops, adjust curricula, and change teachers if necessary without advanced notice. Courses are typically cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or unavailability of a teacher. If your course is cancelled, you will be notified by telephone or email and given the option to transfer to another class, to receive a FIH tuition credit, or to receive a full refund for the canceled-class only.
Make up classes:
Students enrolled in group classes may purchase up to three (3) one-on-one makeup classes with a FIH teacher per session. These classes are offered at a reduced rate of $40 an hour for an individual, as compared to our regular private class rate. Scheduled and finalized makeup classes cannot be rescheduled or refunded.
In the event that FIH cancels a class due to inclement weather or teacher absence, a make-up will be scheduled by the teacher with the class. No alternative make-up dates will be offered for students who are unable to attend the scheduled makeup class.
Students may make up a class by attending a class at the same level on a different day.
Class withdrawal or pre-determined absence:
To withdraw from a class, you may submit a written request in person at the Language Center office or by email to email@example.com at least five (5) business days prior to the first day of class.
When you wish to withdraw from a class you have three options:
- If the request is made within 24 hours of registration, a full tuition refund will be given.
- 10-week classes that meet 2 or 3 hours per week will be subject to a $100 cancellation fee.
- A credit (valid for four (4) months) issued to your FIH account that can be used for another class. The cancellation fee is waived for this option.
After the first week of class, only FIH credit will be issued following a request for withdrawal. The cost for the number of classes that have occurred will be deducted from the total and a pro-rated tuition credit will be issued to the student’s FIH account, valid for four (4) months.
No refunds or credits are offered for books, specialty exams, or workshops. A student may obtain a maximum credit of three (3) classes. Please allow up to two weeks for refunds to be issued.
If a student is unsure about attending all classes prior to the start of the session, the student will be required to pay for the full session and upon completion of the session, the student will be given FIH credit for any missed classes up to a maximum credit of three (3) classes, as in the case for a withdrawal.
FIH reserves the right to treat certain situations on a case-by-case basis.
Request to repeat a class:
FIH reserves the right to request that a student repeat a course if it is deemed necessary before they are allowed to progress to a class at the next proficiency level. If a student wishes to repeat a level, as a special consideration, s/he will receive 50% off on the class. This rule applies to General French classes only and the repeated class must be taken in the session that immediately follows. This discount cannot be combined with any other discount.
Terms of payment:
Payments are required in full upon registration.
Payment must be completed by credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover, AMEX) at the time of registration.
Payment for purchases over $60.00 must be completed by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover) or check (payable to the French Institute of Houston). A fee of $30.00 will be applied towards bounced checks. Purchases under $60.00 may be paid by cash or any of the other aforementioned methods.
Private lesson packages of five to thirty hours must be used within a four-month period. It is the student’s responsibility to maintain a course schedule with FIH to complete the total number of hours within 4 months. Failure to complete the package within 4 months will result in loss of unused hours. FIH is not responsible for unused hours and student will not be refunded or given credit for unused hours. Certain exemptions can be made at the discretion of FIH. A minimum of five hours must be purchased.
Class cancellations must be received by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm the day prior to the first class and by Friday 5pm for a Monday class.
Private classes cannot be rescheduled. Packages between fifteen and thirty hours can be rescheduled a maximum of three appointments within four months. Packages under five hours can be rescheduled a maximum of one appointment.
Private Lesson tuition and fees are non-refundable.
Unexpected building closure:
FIH may need to close unexpectedly, due to inclement weather or other circumstances. In such situations, you will be informed via email or telephone. Every effort will be made to make up any lost class time during the current session. If the lost class(es) cannot be made up, a credit will be added to your account for the equivalent cost of the lost class time.
FIH does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, disability, gender, sexuality, and national or ethnic origin in the administration of its admissions, educational, or employment policies and programs.
Use of cellular phones is not permitted in classrooms. Eating and drinking are permitted in classrooms.
FIH is not responsible for any lost belongings, however we will keep a Lost and Found box.
Well-behaved small dogs are allowed in classrooms at any time, except if someone in the class is allergic or uncomfortable.
